Atmosphere-y sketch

Sometimes you take a 3 year hiatus and immediately post fan-art. What can ya do? Kiki is one of my favorites...she got me through a tough time, and I think most artists can empathize with losing your inspiration sometimes. With me, however, I have just been creating tons for work, and have had zero time for anything on the side. I'm hoping to start updating a little more regularly again.

Almost Done

So here's the piece I'm working on for the BYU Animator's collaboration book

Reality Not Included. Though I'm personally partial to the aged grayscale version, the color version seems to be the favorite of others so far. Please feel free to chime in with any thoughts,or critiques.

Speedy Mononoke

Another speed painting...30 minutes, referencing Princess Mononoke background art...love that film.

Speedy Cinderelly

Speed painting, working from Cinderella. A little over 30 minutes, but not by much. Sizing is a little funky...but overall, good to warm up again.

New sketch for the BYU compilation project....I like this composition better. I think I'll do the final render to look like a vintage poster, advertising an airship race...and the ships will look more steampunky, even if it's the same style just all metal. We'll see...onward and such!

Rough layout for my illustration for Reality Not Included. I think it will be fun...can't go wrong with airships :)

Speedy Roadrunner

Love painting in the style of the epic Roadrunner vs Wiley Coyote. These were done in Sketchbook Pro in a couple of hours...made me want to watch cartoons. I love how simple the backgrounds were for those skits...nothing that could take away from the amazing physical comedy...but the starkness and graphic quality is just so fabulous.

Sketchy Musings

Well, the year is over...and I did make my goal...just not like I thought I would. I have in fact done a painting for every day of the year, if I count the the pieces I do at work that I obviously can't post.

Admittedly, the goal was to accomplish 365 paintings in my spare time, but with the constraints of the year, that didn't exactly happen. I did learn a lot this year though, and I think I'll keep going until I reach the 365 outside pieces.

This year my goal is a little more realistic. I'm signed up for The Sketchbook Project, which should be fun and it's just one book by April...a bit more manageable with all the other personal goals I've set.

With that...here's some more art

Speedy Fairy Tale Fabric

So, I found this site http://www.spoonflower.com/ where you can print your own fabric designs, and it got me thinking about patterning and such. So, for this set of 7, I gave a shot at some graphic patterning based on fairy tales...some obvious and others rather obscure. Don't know that I'll really order any of these as prints, but it was a good exercise in simplifying a graphic idea, and making a seamless pattern.
