More 'Kites'

So I've hit that mode where I just have to keep working. I hope my energy holds out, 'cause I have a ton that needs to be done this week. Anyway, here's my next shot from Kites. I'm pretty pleased with the way the lighting in the sky sequence is going, it's fun and relatively quick when everything is working in Maya. Cheers!

'Kites' lighting

So, here's my first completely lit shot for Kites. I think it turned out rather nicely..it was a beast to light because of the really dramatic camera swoop, but I'm pleased with the final result.

This is just an alternate lighting for the first segment of the shot. I couldn't decide which one I liked better, so I thought I'd post both.

I've totally been on a Grand Canyon kick lately...I can't stop thinking about it...go figure. So, I did this piece yesterday using the pen tool in Photoshop. I'm going for the retro travel poster look. It's almost done, I just need to add the text...I'll post the final as soon as it's done. I'm pretty pleased with the way this one turned out, and it was fun to mess around with vector style again.

Just a fun marker sketch I did while my husband was filling the car up. I'm madly in love with markers.

These are the first sketches I've done in a long time just for fun. I wanted to draw some pirates and so I did...the satisfaction of doing that really made me feel a lot better. I've been really burned out lately, to the point that I didn't even want to THINK about drawing...but doing some sketching just for fun really helped me get out of that funk.

Massive update o' doom

So, things have been a bit crazy lately. I've been doing a lot of interviewing, working on Kites, and tying things up so I can graduate in a few weeks. Jungle Book is finished, which helped with the workload some, and things seem to be coming along, and I'll be posting more frequently again.

This first group of pictures is work from Kites. First on the docket is the start of a lighting shot...I'll post the finished one when it's done. I like the way the glowiness of this sequence is going, and now that we've got some new ideas thanks to Pixar, it looks like we'll really be able to achieve the look that we want.

This is(hopefully) the last color pass on the phoenix. I've got a few little edits to make, but then all that's left is a new opacity, specular, and bump map. So, crossing our fingers, this should be done in the next week.

These next images are some sketch work I did for my interview with the Disney Imagineering Parade and Show department. They were really nice, and I had a great time meeting with them.

Finally, the end product of Jungle Book. I'm pretty pleased with the way these turned out, I do want to get some nice production shots though if I can.

Well, here's the last of my portraits for head painting. It was super-time consuming, but I learned a ton!

So this was just a quick portrait practice while I was rendering more for Gladiator. Done in Photoshop with one brush and about 7 key colors. Trying to really limit my palette, and work quick.

Inspired by Mucha's "Zodiac." This was for a prompt over at The Quick Draw, to draw a personification of a season in Mucha's style. Lots of fun and really challenging.

I may turn it into a Christmas label for cocoa or something :)

Junge Book Blitz
