Ohmigosh Disney-ness

So, I guess I've been on a Disney kick lately. I started another trading card series of paintings, and so far I really like how they're going...just like the last series, these are watercolor on cold press, 2.5X3 inches. Then I was messing around with my Photoshop upgrade (hurray for CS4) and working on lineart...and there was Ariel :) Kinda fun to draw such a classic character...haven't done that for years.Anyway, cheers!

Happy sketchiness...white Prismacolor and Blackwing drafting pencil on rough brown paper...good times. I really like some of the results, so I think I'll keep messing around with this style :)

Caution: Girl Working

So here's a snippet of my current pet project....mysterious indeed...but lots of fun. To be general, I'm working on another children's book, and having a blast messing around with a VERY different style than what I'm used to.

Finished one series...starting another?

Well, I finished my first series of trading cards...I liked doing these little paintings so much I think I may continue. I realized that I kind of neglected some areas of Disneyland...so maybe I'll keep going with the Park as my theme for the next group as well...specifically Tomorrowland, Toontown, and Main Street.

Well, just found out that the book I illustrated is going to be for sale next week...so that's exciting. I'm working on another children's book as well, so things are moving along.

Some more itsy bitsy paintings from the Disneyland series I'm doing. These are all 2.5 X 3.5 inches on cold press watercolor paper. Nice to do something quick :)

Late Merry Christmas

Long time no update...oh well :) I did this painting for my Grandpa for Christmas as a companion to a piece I did a couple years ago of him as Santa Claus...wanted to get Grandma in as Mrs. Claus this time. Hopefully I'll have more to update soon!

Book Illustrations

So, I just finished illustrating a children's book for a friend, and thought I'd upload the final images. It was fun to work on a bigger project and I'm looking forward to seeing it published!

Happiest Place on Earth

So I found these cool little trading cards from Strathmore that you can get in all kinds of paper. I picked up some of the watercolor ones, mainly to get some measurements(which happen to be 2.5 X 3.5, in case you were wondering) and look into the trading program, cause it sounded like a fun way to see cool art. I decided to do some quickie watercolor pieces of pictures that I''ve taken at Disneyland, and I'm amazed at how addicting these little paintings are. I think Ill probably go back into these with prismacolor over the top, just to clean up some lines and such, but we'll see.

Piano Man

So my good friend Brooke that I work with LOVES Billy Joel, and she comissioned a painting of him. I thoroughly enjoyed working on this one, and I really glad that it made me realize that I've missed painting. Limited color palette is always so much fun :)

Sketchy update o' doom

Finally! It feels nice to get some more current work up. These are just from my sketch book...lots of backgrounds/landscapes to make me happy, and some people thrown in just for kicks :)

Time to finally update with some new stuff...it's been an insane ammount of time. But here's some of what I've been doing with more to follow soon, I hope :)

Moose texture for a project with Kelly Loosli. This was painted in Photoshop using hi-res photos I took at the Bean museum, and then applied in Cinema 4-D. Now the trick is to get it back into Soft Image.

Ah, the knot charm. Despite its simple appearances, this little thing was quite a beast. WIth a little bizzare-ly appropriate warping in the uv's though, it turned out all right. This texture was created with procedural shading and bump for the knots and wood grain/varnish, and painted textures with a hi-res scan for the chords and lettering.

This was for a fun thing online called the Harry Potter Fan Art project. I don't usually do much in the fan art genre, but this one kind of caught my attention. This was a pretty quick painting done in Photoshop using a watercolor-ish brush. Kinda fun.
