Speedy Gothic

All black and white this week, I think. With an emphasis on Victorian/Gothic.

Cause it's almost Halloween.

And I can't resist that era anyway.

Final Speedy Serving

Last one...new theme time.

Always the worst part...it's so much easier once I've figured out what I want to do.

This week was fun though...I'm relatively happy with all of them except the 'Epic Apple,'

so I consider that a successful week.

Onward.

Speedy Second Serving

Speedy Servings

Fruit this week. Why?

Because.

Speedy Inky

Ink was loving me more than paint this week. What can ya do?

Speedy Mummy

So this week's inspiration came from one of my favorite films, The Mummy. I love adventure stories, and when you combine adventure with a nice mix of romance and comedy, that's precisely my cup of tea. Now, frankly none of these turned out how I wanted...but I was keeping myself to a strict 1 hour rule...and as such was forced to live with some mistakes. Ah well. Evie turned out to be my favorite by far...I guess the old saying of a hundred paintings for one good one lives on. Sigh.

Speedy Sunflowers

Another week down....5 weeks to catch up...sheesh. Oh well, this week was fun...I've been loving all the sunflower bouquets at our Whole Foods and couldn't resist doing some painting. All in watercolor this week...and my 'one of these things is not like the other' painting is the result of a demo, that matched in color palette...so Sunflower Girl :) As usual, each of these was done in about an hour.

Speedy Canyon

Grand Canyon theme this week..yah things have been pretty crazy again...but SO HELP ME, I WILL GET CAUGHT UP! :) Some more traditional fun this week...all sorts of media, so here's the list

1. Acrylic

2. Acrylic

3. Prismacolor, then melted with turpenoid and some acrylic over the top

4. Watercolor

5. Watercolor

6. Watercolor

7. Digital: Sketchbook Pro

I think 3 is maybe my favorite for the week...fun to mess around some though. I've been dying to go back to the Grand Canyon for about 3 years now...I'm fascinated by the layers...and was particularly fond of the North side with the juxtaposition of more trees with the stone...anyway, maybe I'll get there someday soon!

Speedy Spaceships

So, I just downloaded the 2011 Sketchbook Pro...and man, it's freakin' awesome! Only $59, and it's a major upgrade. Still lacks the breadth of Photoshop obviously, but for sketching, it's much more intuitive and sensitive to tablet movement. This recent update has added things like layer styles, text, and my tool of the week 'symmetry'...hence spaceships

Maybe someday I'll paint the others....

Speedy Sea Creatures

Inspired by our Aquarium of the Pacific visit on the 4th of July...all painted from photos I took that day. Didn't have time to paint live, there was just too much to see...so taking photos and then painting is the next best thing, I figure.

This one below is my favorite of the week...

And one bonus painting I did referencing a stock photo book I found....go figure.
